A deep dive into learning AvaloniaUI

I read once in a book that I didn’t finish and can’t remember the name of, about how the author challenged himself to learn a new language every few months by living in a country and speaking only the native language. No English was allowed, not even with his friend and travel companion. Apparently, this worked really well and after 3 or 4 months in country, was relatively competent at the language.

I’m going to attempt something similar over the next few months but with AvaloniaUI, the cross platform UI framework closely related to WPF. In the course of learning about Avalonia, I’ll be building a cross-platform application for managing a school library. Fairly trivial but with enough scope to allow me to get a good grasp of the technology. To mirror what the author of the book tried, I won’t be following any tutorials or reading any books to get started as I’ve already got a lot (16 years) of development experience. So, I’ll jump right in and get started and learn by doing with no safety net so to speak.

As a secondary goal, I’d like to learn to become a better and more engaging writer, so I’ll blog about my efforts as often and as concisely as possible. I feel that if I can explain the concept clearly to a wide audience, then I can claim to have a good understanding of it.
